Record the Route
The OnRoute Record app on the tablet is used to generate routes to be driven by your fleet. This guide describes the process to use the app.
For help on driving created routes, see the OnRoute guide.
For a general overview of creating and using routes, see Using OnRoute Step by Step.
Operation
Tap the OnRoute Record tile to open the app.
Before starting, make sure your vehicle is parked where the route is to begin. Depending on your organization's policies, this may be the vehicle yard, the first stop, or another location.
Create a New Route
The app opens immediately to the Record a New Route screen.
Tap the Route name field to bring up the keyboard. Type in the name of the route and tap Done.
Tap Start Recording. The app will ask you to confirm that your vehicle is where the route is to begin. If you are not, tap Cancel and then move the vehicle to the appropriate location.
Once ready, tap Start Recording to begin.
Drive the Route
The app switches to the Recording in Progress screen. While this screen is visible, drive to the first stop on the route, using the expected streets and turns the operating vehicle will use.
When you reach the planned stop, bring the vehicle to a full stop, then tap Add Bus Stop.
The app provides a default stop name. If you wish to change the name, tap the text field and enter the desired name. Tap Add Stop once finished to mark the stop on the route.
Continue driving to the next stop. Repeat these steps for all planned stops on the route.
When you have added the last stop and the vehicle is parked at the end of the route, tap Complete Recording.
If the end of the route is a different location from the last stop, the app will ask if you want to use the last stop recorded as the end of the route, or add a new stop where you are currently located. This lets you optionally complete the recording in a safe location such as the vehicle yard without disrupting the planned route.
Preview and Send the Route
Once the recording is complete, the app displays a top-down preview of the recorded route. This screen lets you confirm that the route is correct, along with a second opportunity to edit the names of the route and individual stops. Tap the edit pencil next to a name to change it.
If there is an issue with the route, you have the option to tap Discard to delete the route and re-drive it.
When you are satisfied with the displayed route, tap Submit Recording. The app asks you to confirm your submission. Tap Submit to continue.
Once you tap Submit, the app sends the route up to OnRoute Web where fleet administration can review the route, make further edits if necessary, and approve the app for use in the OnRoute app.
You are all finished! You may record another route after this or exit the app.
