Installing Top Support Blocks
Equipment Needed
- Electric hand drill
- 2mm or 5/64 inch drill bit
- #1 Phillips screwdriver (max torque of 0.5 N·m or 4.5 in·lbs)
- Top support kit
- Two support blocks
- Four (4) blunted screws
- Four (4) pointed screws - not used
- Tab Active2 dock removed from vehicle (see Replacing the Tab Active2 Dock for instructions)
- Secured work bench with drill-safe surface
Pre-installation Notes
- Set the pointed screws aside. They are not used in this installation.
- The notches in the blocks should be placed against the back of the dock along the top edges, such that the right-angled protrusions face the front of the dock.
- The top support blocks will only fit snugly in one place and orientation. Familiarize yourself with where the blocks need to be placed before drilling.
Installation
- Place the dock on the work bench with the back side facing up.
- Drill pilot holes:
- Hold top support block firmly in place against back of dock.
- Using the 2mm or 5/64 inch drill bit in the electric drill, place the tip of the drill bit in one of the holes on the block.
- Ensuring the drill is perpendicular to the dock, drill completely through the dock at medium speed with light pressure.
When drilling, ensure your fingers are not covering the spot on the front side of the dock where the drill will exit to avoid injury.
- Repeat for the second hole in the block.
- Repeat for the second top support block.
- Remove any drilling debris or leftover burrs.
- Attach top support blocks:
- Align one top support block over its pre-drilled pilot holes and hold it in place.
- Using the Phillips screwdriver, install a blunt tipped screw into one of the holes until snug.
- Repeat for the second hole in the block
- Repeat for the second top support block.
- Fit a Tab Active2 tablet into the dock to ensure a proper fit with the newly attached top support blocks.
- If the fit is satisfactory, reinstall dock into vehicle (see Replacing the Tab Active2 Dock for instructions).
