Overview
Zonar Coach enables fleet drivers and managers to increase safety and efficiency through tracking and monitoring of driver performance on the road. The in-cab solution monitors, tracks, and alerts drivers in real time. This tool allows the fleet manager to view driver behavior.
This guide contains instructions for using the Zonar Coach app on a mobile device (iOS or Android). It also contains basic troubleshooting information for the camera.
What Does Zonar Coach Monitor?
Zonar Coach uses a dual-facing camera with an accelerometer to monitor:
- Speed
- Tailgating
- Lane drifting
- Rolling stops
- Hard braking
- Hard cornering
- Hard acceleration
- Distracted driving
Zonar Coach App
The Zonar Coach driver application drives and records the input from the DashCam video camera and runs automatically when the vehicle is in motion. There is no need to start the application prior to driving.
Signing into the Coach Application
It is necessary to sign into the application to associate the driver with the vehicle and camera.
- Tap the app icon on your device.
- Enter the email address and password associated with the account.
This is not your Apple ID or Android account information. This is the account associated with Zonar Coach. If you do not have a set of credentials to log in with, speak with your fleet manager to create your profile in Ground Traffic Control.
Connecting the Camera with the Vehicle
- Confirm that the Bluetooth® function on the driver phone is turned on.
- Tap Account icon.
- Tap Camera Install.
- Select the camera IMEI from drop-down menu. Refer to the sticker on the camera.
- Select vehicle asset ID from drop-down menu.
Only those cameras and vehicles that are available will appear in the menu.
- Tap Connect. The camera pairs with the vehicle asset.
- Tap Check camera alignment to make sure the camera is properly positioned.
- Inspect the camera to make sure it is mounted, wired, and powered on. The vehicle should be parked on level ground.
- Tap Begin. The application takes a still photo from the cameras.
- If the horizon of the image is in line with the dotted horizon line in the app, tap Looks good! to continue.
If the image is not aligned with the dotted horizon line, carefully adjust the position of the camera. Tap Refresh image to re-check the new position.
Checking Camera Alignment
If movement of the camera has occurred, check alignment and adjust the camera.
- Tap the Account icon.
- Tap Camera Alignment Test.
- The application scans for the camera using Bluetooth® beacons. A list of assets appears. Select the asset for the installed camera.
Associating the Driver with the Vehicle
- Confirm that the Bluetooth® function on the driver phone is turned on.
- Tap the Connection icon.
- Select the vehicle asset number from the list of Recent numbers (if listed), or tap Scan for Nearby Assets to scan for nearby assets.
The app uses Bluetooth® beacons to locate nearby cameras and then match the IMEI with previously-identified camera IMEIs.
- Select the vehicle asset (associated with the camera IMEI) from the list of assets found nearby.
- Tap Connect. The app associates the driver with the asset.
- When connected, tap OK.
The Connection icon turns green to indicate the connection is made.
Disconnecting the Driver from the Vehicle
When a driver is finished driving a vehicle, they can disconnect the association between driver and vehicle. This is recommended if more than one driver will use the vehicle.
- Tap the Connection icon.
- Tap Disconnect.
The driver's name is no longer associated with the vehicle in the app.
If a driver does not disconnect from the vehicle and a second driver begins driving, the actions of the second driver will be recorded on the score of the first driver.
Reading the Coach App Dashboard
The Zonar Coach application displays driver scores, lists any driving incidents that have occurred, and provides an opportunity for the driver to dispute any incidents.
My Score
The My Score page displays the overall driver score and key metrics for the driver logged into the app.
Driver scoring is independent of which vehicle the driver has driven. In other words, if a driver drives five different vehicles each with a different Coach camera, the score follows them.
By default, the app displays the results of the current day. Tap on YESTERDAY or 7 DAYS to view stats for those time ranges.
Scores are weighted by importance in the Zonar Coach portal by an administrator. Green is “good”, yellow is “fair”, and red is “poor”. The large score in the middle of the screen is the driver overall score compared to the fleet. This score is calculated by the length in hours of trips, the number of incidents, and a weighted calculation of the types of incidents that occurred.
The KEY METRICS section lists (for the time range selected): the total miles and hours driven, the rate of incidents per hour and the average number of incidents occurring per trip, and the total number of trips.
An at-a-glance tile indicates the total number of incidents that occurred during the time range.
Incidents
The Incidents page lists details of all incidents for the last seven days, and allows the driver to challenge an incident.
To dispute an incident, the driver is not required to be in the vehicle.
To access the Incidents table, tap the incidents tile at the bottom of the My Score screen, or tap the Incidents tab to view all available incidents.
At the top of the screen the total number of incidents and trips are listed.
Incidents tab
The Incidents list displays the event type; the date, time, and location of the incident; a link to a video of the event; and a Challenge button.
Tap the play button to view a video of the incident.
Tap Challenge when the incident listed does not appear correct or there were extenuating circumstances. The challenge is sent to the Administrator for review.
Trips tab
The Trips list displays the trips taken during the last seven days in which an incident occurred.
Tap view map to view the incidents on a pathed route on a map.
Disputes
The Disputes page lists all the incidents that were challenged by the driver. The list can be sorted by status state by selecting PENDING, APPROVED, or REJECTED.
A PENDING dispute is an incident that has been challenged by the driver, but not yet reviewed by the driving coach.
An APPROVED dispute is an incident that has been challenged by the driver and the driving coach has agreed that the driver was not at fault. An approved dispute removes the incident from being considered in the driving score.
A REJECTED dispute is an incident that has been challenged by the driver and the driving coach has determined that the driver was indeed at fault for the incident.
