Introduction
The Zonar Coach dashboard allows administrators, trainers, and dispatchers to view and evaluate recorded trips taken by drivers. Driving behavior for each driver is presented in an at-a-glance view to provide a simple comparison dashboard. Video or images of incidents that occurred during a trip are viewed from a driver and trip list, and indicated on a map. This information can be used to reinforce expected driver behavior.
To access the Zonar Coach dashboard in Ground Traffic Control, select Reports, then click Zonar Coach in the Custom Reports section. The Zonar Coach portal opens outside of Ground Traffic Control (https://www.zonarcoach.com).
Setup
Associating Cameras with Vehicles
Each camera is identified by an IMEI number (found on the back of the camera). The IMEIs are entered into the Zonar Coach system by the Zonar Implementations team. A camera is "linked" to a vehicle when the IMEI is associated with the vehicle Asset number.
A driver or installer associates the camera with a vehicle in the Zonar Coach™ Mobile app on their phone.
Before associating a camera with a vehicle the driver or installer must sign into the Zonar Coach™ Mobile app.
Steps for associating a camera with a vehicle.
Setting Up Drivers in Ground Traffic Control
Drivers associate themselves to an asset in the Zonar Coach app on their phone. To make that possible, the driver must be added as a Driver and a User in Ground Traffic Control.
Steps for adding a Driver in Ground Traffic Control.
Steps for adding a User in Ground Traffic Control.
When adding a driver as a User in Ground Traffic Control, you will need to:
- Generate a User profile for the driver
- In the Manage>Users screen select settings under the PERMISSIONS column for the driver's user profile.
- Enable the "coachdriver" permission and select Update User at the bottom of the menu.
- To grant installer privileges enable the "coachinstaller" permission and select Update User at the bottom of the menu.
- Open Manage Drivers (Manage>Drivers>Drivers) and select Add
to open the Add New Driver menu.
- Create the driver profile. The required fields for Zonar Coach™ Mobile compatibility are:
- CDL Number
- CDL State/Province
- Zonar Tag Number
- Email (must match the email in the driver's Ground Traffic Control user profile)
Scoring
The Weighted Score is a calculation of the number of incidents per the distance traveled, and then converted into a percentage score. The higher the score, the better the driving quality of that trip. This score is determined on the individual driver’s results.
The Zonar Coach driver score is calculated over the requested period of time, set by the page filter. The calculation is designed so that it ranks the drivers based on the riskiness of the driving behavior. The calculation does this by looking at the distance and duration of the trips taken during a period, the number of incidents, the type of incidents, and the relative risk level attributed to each incident type
Fleet Performance at a Glance

Distracted Drivers
A distracted driver poses a risk for causing an accident. The driver-facing camera monitors the driver's head position while in motion for a preset amount of time to determine if they are paying attention to the road. The head positions that the camera looks for are facing left, facing right, facing down, or facing up. Those positions typically indicate rubber-necking or that a driver is looking at a phone.
The duration of the driver's head-position change, the vehicle speed, and whether there is a vehicle in front of the driver are factors in triggering a distracted driving event. Because there is less time to react at high speed, distraction events are triggered sooner when driving faster.
Time to Trigger a Distracted Driver Event | ||
Head position | Low Vehicle Speed | High Vehicle Speed |
Down | 5 sec | 3 sec |
Left/Right | 10 sec | 6 sec |
If the driver is wearing a mask or sunglasses, the driver-facing camera will still be able to detect head position properly.
If the driver is negotiating a steep curve (for example, a cloverleaf junction), a false positives is possible.
DVR Video
The DVR feature of Coach records the entire trip taken by a driver. You can request a clip of one minute to five minutes in duration from any time during the trip, whether or not there is an incident during the requested clip. Videos and photos are stored for 6 months.
DVR clips will not be sent unless the DashCam is powered on.
To request a DVR video clip:
- Navigate to the Trip Summary page for the trip.
- Select "Capture DVR".
- In the dialog box, select the starting point on the timeline. Starting points can be determined by either entering the desired time or by dragging the slider on the Preview line.
- Click the Duration box to adjust the length of the DVR clip. Clip durations range in length from 1 minute to 5 minutes.
Currently DVR clips longer than 1 minute in duration will generate multiple 1 minute DVR clips in accordance to the length selected.
- Click Capture. The request is sent and noted in the DVR section beneath the Incident List.
- While a DVR clip is generating an Upload Pending message will display when the DVR event is selected.
Flagged Incidents
