Asset Utilization

The Asset Utilization report allows you to see at a glance how your fleet is being used, and how often specific vehicles are being used.

  • Are some of your vehicles sitting idle instead of being put to work?
  • Are some of your vehicles being used too often, putting unnecessary wear and tear on them?

The Asset Utilization report helps answer these questions.

 


Utilization Range

This report identifies assets by whether they are utilized normally, under-utilized, or over-utilized. The utilization metric is determined by the following:

  • Assets in the fleet have a set target amount of hours and/or miles they should be used per day.
  • Assets within a certain range of this target amount are considered normally utilized, while assets that fall outside are under- or over-utilized.
  • The utilization is displayed as a percentage. The percentage is calculated as the asset's hours or miles used per day (averaged if looking at more than one day) divided by the target hours or miles, rounded to the nearest whole number. For example, if the target mileage is 360 miles per day, an asset that is being driven 125 miles per day on average is 35% utilized, while an asset driven 300 miles per day is 83% utilized.

By default, Zonar assigns the following values:

  • Target hours: The asset should be used for 8 target hours per day, including weekends.
  • Target miles: The asset should be used for 360 target miles per day, including weekends.
  • Utilization range: The range of how much the asset would be used in an ideal situation is between 80 and 100 percent.

These values are fully configurable in Threshold Settings and can be adjusted to meet your fleet's needs.

  1. Report Metric: Click to displays the report in either hours or miles. The report is otherwise laid out identically for each metric.
    • Hours: Hours an asset's engine is on per day.
    • Miles: Miles an asset has traveled per day.
  2. Filters: Select individual filters to narrow the list to only desired events. See Filters for more details.
  3. Summary: Displays a high-level report for the fleet, restricted by any filters provided. See Summary for more information.
  4. Asset utilization chart: Displays a pie chart of the fleet by utilization range.
  5. Utilization trend chart: Displays a line chart of the filtered date range and the average utilization for the fleet per day. The red dotted line shows the average utilization across the date range. Hover over a point on the chart to see stats for that day.
  6. Utilized assets: Displays a list of filtered assets with information about their utilization. See Utilized assets for more information.

Filters

  • Date Range: Click to define the range of time the report should filter to. Defaults to previous 7 days. Available options:
    • Today
    • Previous 7 days
    • Previous 14 days
    • Previous 30 days
    • Previous 365 days
    • Custom: Click the starting date on the calendar, then click the ending date to define your desired date range.
  • Utilization: Click to select the type of utilization the report should filter to. Defaults to all. Available options:
    • Over utilized: Only assets which are over the ideal utilization range.
    • Normal utilization: Only assets which are within the ideal utilization range.
    • Under utilized: Only assets which are under the ideal utilization range.
  • Asset: Click to select specific divisions or subdivisions in which assets are located, or specific assets directly. Defaults to all.
  • Asset Properties: Click to select specific asset properties the report should filter to. Defaults to all. For more information, see Asset Properties.

Summary

This section shows summarized data for all assets within the selected filters which were active within the selected date range.

The summarized data is calculated using the UTC timezone. As such, the data may appear to include dates outside of the date range selected, but the summarized data is accurate.

  • Avg utilization: Displays the average utilization for the selected assets across the selected date range. For example, if Previous 7 Days is selected but no other filter is, this field shows the entire fleet's utilization over the past week.
  • Avg hours/miles used (per day): Displays the average hours or miles used for the selected assets per day across the selected date range.
  • Over utilized assets: Displays the total count of assets that ran over the ideal utilization range within the filters selected.
  • Under utilized assets: Displays the total count of assets that ran under the ideal utilization range within the filters selected.
  • Total assets: Displays the total count of assets that are being included in this summary depending on the filters selected.

This section shows individual assets' utilization statistics. Only assets within the selected filters which were used within the selected date range are displayed here.

  • Utilization: Displays the asset's utilization both as a percentage and as a category indicated by the icon.
    • yellow triangle indicates the asset is being under-utilized.
    • red square indicates the asset is being over-utilized.
  • Asset: Displays the asset name as defined in Manage Assets.
  • Total Hours/Miles: Displays the total hours or miles the asset was used over the selected date range.
  • Avg Hours/Miles (Per Day): Displays the average hours or miles the asset was used per day over the selected date range.
  • Latest Date (MM/DD/YYYY): The most recent date the asset was used. The timezone is chosen according to your computer settings.
