What is the Zonar LD25-V01?
Zonar LD25-V01 is a telematics control unit (TCU) designed for use with light duty trucks, vans, cars, and other vehicles which use an ODBII network. It is a compact, easy to install solution with no cabling or peripherals required.
This article describes how to install the Zonar LD25-V01, some differences to expect between it and the standard TCUs Zonar offers, and how to identify and resolve potential issues that may arise.

Installation
Assign the LD25-V01 in Ground Traffic Control
In Ground Traffic Control, go to Manage > Assets.
If you are installing the LD25-V01 in a new asset:
- Click the Add button.
- Fill out the asset information.
- Select the IMEI/Serial Number of the LD25-V01 in the GPS Id field.
- Click Save.
If you are installing the LD25-V01 in an existing asset:
- Find the asset in the list and click the pencil icon.
- Select "None" in the GPS Id field.
- Click Save.
- Click the pencil icon on the asset again.
- Select the IMEI/Serial Number of the LD25-V01 in the GPS Id field.
- Click Save.
Install the LD25-V01
Before starting, ensure the vehicle is parked in a well-ventilated area, with good cellular coverage and a clear view to the overhead sky for GPS connectivity (i.e. Do not install in an enclosed garage, underground parking area, or roof covered parking area).
Make sure the vehicle is parked on a flat parking surface for install. Parking on an slope or grade during install may lead to reporting issues with harsh events (for example, hard-braking/accelerating/cornering)
Direct Installation into the OBDII Port
- Turn the vehicle engine off.
- Ensure no other devices are using the OBDII port.
- Confirm that all LED lights on the LD25-V01 are out.
- Plug the Zonar LD25-V01 device into the OBDII port.
- Disable vehicle's idle-engine stop feature, if applicable. This feature can be reenabled once installation is complete.
- Start the vehicle engine.
- (Optional) Wait for Cellular LED to start fast flashing amber and for GPS LED to go solid green. This typically takes less than three minutes.
-
Once LED states are confirmed the installation can be concluded. Choose one of the following options:
- Shutdown the engine. Trip data may be lost and the odometer source from the installation might not be confirmed in Ground Traffic Control. Data will begin to flow at the beginning of the next trip.
- Drive away. The first few minutes of the trip may be missing when the trip data is sent to Ground Traffic Control.
- Idle an additional 5 minutes beyond the engine start. This will ensure data is present in Ground Traffic Control. You can shutdown the engine or drive the vehicle away after this step.
- Idle an additional 8 minutes beyond the engine start. This will ensure data is present in Ground Traffic Control and the LD25-V01 pulls odometer data from the vehicle's ECM. You can shutdown the engine or drive the vehicle away after this step.
Optional: Secure the LD25-V01 onto the OBDII port with a cable-tie. Do not overtighten, snug only.
Optional: Confirm vehicle data is populating in Ground Traffic Control. Some trip data from the installation may be missing.
Installation with a Zonar OBDII Y-Splitter into the OBDII Port
The use of a Zonar OBDII Y-Splitter is allowed if it is intended to provide maintenance personnel the ability to temporarily connect diagnostic tools to the vehicle while idling. Any diagnostic tool must be removed before placing the vehicle in drive.
DO NOT use an OBDII Y-Splitter with the LD25-V01 if a third-party device is to be permanently connected to the cable. This includes wheel chair Lift transmission lockout device, fuel monitor, additional GPS tracker, insurance company monitor, etc. Shared use of the OBDII Y-Splitter with the LD25-V01 can result in device conflict, and undesirable or unsafe conditions in the vehicle. It may also cause network devices to remain awake after the engine is turned off, which may drain the vehicle battery.
- Turn the vehicle engine off.
- Ensure no other devices are using the OBDII port.
- Plug the Zonar OBDII Y-Splitter into the OBDII port.
- Confirm that all LED lights on the LD25-V01 are out.
- Plug the Zonar LD25-V01 device into the OBDII Y-Splitter.

Mandatory: Cable-tie Y-Splitter cable to OBDII port to prevent the LD25-V01 from moving.
Optional: Secure the LD25-V01 onto the OBDII Y-Splitter with a cable-tie. Do not overtighten, snug only.
Optional: Confirm vehicle data is populating in Ground Traffic Control. Some trip data from the installation may be missing.

Differences between Zonar LD25-V01 and other Zonar TCUs
Hardware
Because Zonar LD25-V01 is a self-contained solution, it cannot make use of wired Zonar peripherals or the WiFi-only Driver Coach camera. The Zonar LD is compatible with the SIM-enabled Driver Coach camera.
Zonar LD25-V01 has an 8-pin serial port. This port is not compatible with Zonar 2010 or tablet devices.
Software
Most expected GPS and vehicle data is available from the Zonar LD25-V01, and as a result it is compatible with most Ground Traffic Control reports. Exceptions include:
- ZFuel
- Trip Report
LD25-V01 has limited compatibility with ZAlerts. These alert types are currently available:
- Activity Alert
- GPS Speed Alert
- GPS Zone Alert
- Posted Speed Alert
- Light Duty Alert (Engine Malfunction Light)
Provided Data
All GPS data points normally delivered via Zonar are also delivered by Zonar LD25-V01:
- GPS points are generally recorded every 10 seconds while in motion and idling. These intervals cannot be changed.
- Power on/off, motion start/stop, standard events and cold starts are recorded.
- Trip miles, Odometer or GPS miles (depending on vehicle).
- GPS Engine hours.
-
A report home every 4 hours when the vehicle engine is off. This includes vehicle battery voltage.
While the vehicle engine is off, firmware updates are downloaded and installed during these reports.
- Points are sent to Ground Traffic Control singularly.
