Z Pass is a web-based passive RFID card system used for rider tracking. It records card scans and includes time, date, latitude, and longitude with each scan.
Events are generated entries. They can be generated automatically by the Z Pass system when a card is read or generated manually by a Ground Traffic Control user.
To access the Z Pass Events report from the main menu click Reports, then go to Rider Tracking and click Z Pass Events.
Filters
Name | This is the name of the cardholder associated with the RFID card. |
Card No | The RFID card number as read by Z Pass. |
Group Type | When cardholders are added to Z Pass, they must have a group assigned to them. Groups are mainly used for limiting access in Ground Traffic Control by sorting them under location filters. Only users with access to the active locations in the group can see / edit the events and cardholders. Selecting a group from this drop down will filter the results. |
Cardholder Type | Rider: A cardholder defined as being transported. Aide: A cardholder defined as a person assisting other cardholders while being transported. Driver: A cardholder defined as operating the asset. |
Unique ID | An ID associated with the cardholder entered by a Ground Traffic Control user. |
Asset No | This is the asset number associated with the event. |
Start and End Date | Filter based on the time stamp of when the event occurred. |
Include Ignored Events | Click the checkbox to include any events that have been flagged to be “Ignored Events”. |
Event Type |
Click the drop down menu and check the boxes next to the events for the generated report. Standard Event: This is an event created when Z Pass recorded a read on an asset by an active RFID card. Created Event: This is an event created by a Ground Traffic Control user. Inactive Card: Z Pass recorded a read on an asset but the RFID is set to “Inactive” in Ground Traffic Control. Incomplete Data: Z Pass recorded a read on an asset but one or more of the following was not included from the GPS unit: Time, Odometer, Address, GPS Coordinates, or Asset ID. Unassigned Card: Z Pass recorded a read on an asset but the RFID has never been assigned to a rider. Ignored Event: This is an event that has been ignored by the Ground Traffic Control User, clicking on the check box next to the event and selecting “Ignore Selected” will make the event ignored. Edited Events: This will display if any changes have been made to the original contents of the event. |

Add Event | The “Add Event” button allows events to be added to the list if they did not occur automatically. An example would be a cardholder forgot to read their card as they exited the asset. |
Event Type |
There are several event types that can be listed: Created events: This is an event created by a Ground Traffic Control user. Inactive Card: Z Pass recorded a read on an asset but the RFID is set to “Inactive” in Ground Traffic Control. Incomplete Data: Z Pass recorded a read on an asset but one or more of the following was not included from the GPS unit. Time, Odometer, Address, GPS Coordinates, or Asset ID. |
Option | Clicking on the pencil icon will open the update details window for the event. |
Note: Once an event is edited it becomes locked and you can no longer edit that event.
Reviewing Events
If an automatically generated event occurs but does not pass validation tests, it will require additional information. These events are labeled as; Inactive Card, Unassigned Card, or Partial Scan.
Inactive Card
An event that is registered by the system but associated with an RFID that is marked as “Inactive” will be marked with Inactive Card. Inactive Card events have not passed the validation test and may contain incomplete information. It is best practice to remove the card number association with the cardholder, which will mark the event as unassigned.
Incomplete Data
Incomplete data occurs when Z Pass recorded a read on an asset but one or more of the following was not included from the GPS unit: Time, Odometer, Address, GPS Coordinates, or Asset ID). These events need the missing information manually entered. Clicking on the pencil icon will open the update details window for the event, where the incomplete information can be entered.
Unassigned Card
Unassigned Card Scans occur when Z Pass recorded a read on an asset but the number read doesn’t have a corresponding cardholder associated with it in Ground Traffic Control. Clicking on the pencil icon will open the update details window for the event.
Adding Events
It may become necessary to add in events that were not automatically generated by a Z Pass read RFID card. Examples of needing to add events: A cardholder failed to read his card upon exiting the asset, Z Pass read the cardholder’s card but did not successfully receive all the necessary data.
1. To add a new event, click Add Event from within Z Pass Events.
2. This will open the Add Event pop-up:
3. Enter the required information: Date, Time, Unique ID, Card No, Asset No, and Odometer. It is also possible to add in the address where the event occurred, but this information is not required.
When the Unique ID field is entered, the system will verify the ID is valid and populate the cardholder’s information.
If the Unique ID is not valid, the pop-up will display “Invalid!” and you are not able to add the event.
Note: Once a value has been established for the unique ID it can no longer be changed because it will only be associated with the cardholder and no one else.
4. If the cardholder is not currently in Ground Traffic Control, click Add Cardholder at the top. This will open the Add Cardholder pop-up, allowing quick addition of a cardholder. Once the cardholder has been added, click Add Event again to add an event with this new cardholder.
5. Once all the information has been successfully entered, click Add Event.
Note: After an event has been created, it cannot be deleted. Follow the steps to ignore an event if it is no longer needed or created inadvertently.
Ignoring Events
If an event is incomplete, unassigned, or inactive but is not needed and the information doesn’t need to be updated, the event can be ignored. The event will no longer be displayed.
- Select the check box by the event that should be ignored.
- Once all events have been checked, click Ignore Events above the list.
To view the ignored events, check the Include Ignored Events box located under the start and end date range. These events can then be un-ignored.
Note: The user must generate a report with any event type selected in conjunction with selecting Include Ignored Events in order to view the ignored events.
