To access the Manage Assets screen, from the main menu click Manage, then go to Assets and click Assets.
When a GPS unit is powered on and “phones home” for the first time and has not previously been assigned to an asset, Ground Traffic Control will automatically create a new inactive asset and will assign the GPS unit to it.
To bypass this process, simply assign the GPS unit’s ID to its intended asset before powering it on.
An auto created asset can have its information updated and made active as a new asset in Ground Traffic Control, or the GPS unit can be removed and assigned to another asset, while maintaining a record of the GPS data for the time the unit was not assigned.
Assign the GPS unit to an asset when the GPS is not sending GPS data. The easiest way is to ensure the asset has been completely powered off and the GPS unit has gone to sleep.
- Select the Asset Type filter: Unknown.
- Select the Asset Status filter: Active and Inactive.
- Click Apply.
- The asset list will now display the auto created assets. Any that have a GPS unit assigned will increase the counter on the Warning Triangle in the upper left of Ground Traffic Control.
Add Auto-Created Asset’s GPS ID to a Pre-existing Asset
While it is recommended that the replacement GPS unit be assigned to the asset before the physical work is done, it is possible to power on the GPS device and use it prior to assigning it to the correct asset. None of the data will be lost and it only takes a few simple steps to assign the GPS unit to the existing asset.
- Select the Auto Created Asset.
- Click the Pencil icon located on the right.
- Change the “GPS ID” currently assigned to the auto created asset to “None.”
The GPS ID that is assigned to the auto created asset will be made available within the account after first un-assigning it. Take note of the GPS ID in order to correctly add it to the correct asset.
- Click Save.
- Select the pre-existing asset.
- Click Edit or the Pencil icon located on the right.
- If the asset had a GPS ID previously assigned to it, this ID may still be listed on the asset. To remove it:
- Click the dropdown to change the old ID to None.
- Click Save.
- Click Edit on the asset one more time to re-enter it. The ID should now display as None.
- Change the “GPS ID” currently assigned to the asset to the auto created asset’s GPS ID that was unassigned from step three.
- Click Save.
Create a New Asset from an Auto Created Asset
