Use the Odometer report to remotely obtain an asset’s dashboard odometer reading.
A benefit of this report is that it tracks the asset odometer by the GPS mileage.
To access the Odometer report:
- On the main menu, click Reports, and then under GPS Track & Trace select Odometer.
- In the top-right corner, click Filters, define the following criteria, and then click Generate Report
Asset Expand the dropdown menu and select a single asset from the list or select all assets. Attribute Filters Displays custom-defined characteristics (learn more about Admin Attributes) that can be assigned to one or more assets, creating customizable groups of assets. Select an attribute filter from the list to apply to the report filter. Date Define the date for which you want the odometer value returned. Select Attributes Displays the custom-defined characteristics that an asset may have for the generated report. Select an attribute from the list to apply to the report filter. - Click Odometer Offsets Admin to provide the ability to add a manual odometer offset at a specific date and time for an asset. You must enter an odometer offset whenever the data source of an asset is GPS or anytime the Ground Traffic Control value of Odometer with offsets is different than the asset’s odometer value. The results table displays the following information matching your search criteria:
Asset Displays the name or number given to the asset. Odometer Displays the original odometer value received from the asset on the date and time shown in the Date and Time column. Offset If an offset is applied to the odometer reading, then that offset is displayed. You can adjust this offset using the Odometer Offsets Admin tool. Odometer with Offset Displays the final reading that includes any configured offset. Odometer Source Odometer readings reported by an asset’s GPS device could come from two places; the ECU (Engine Control Unit, which is preferred) or the GPS unit. Date and Time Displays the date and time when the odometer reading was taken.
Zonar records an asset’s odometer value from two distinctly different sources; ECU (Engine Control Unit) and GPS unit. The ECU is the preferred source for the odometer value and, if available, will be the value shown. This number is representative of the odometer reading directly from the asset’s ECU.
About the Odometer Values and Offsets
Where the ECU odometer is not available (typically 4-pin, 3-wire power installations, and OBDII) the GPS unit will report an odometer value based on miles driven as recorded by the GPS chipset. A mileage offset is required to allow Ground Traffic Control to properly display the asset’s odometer value in these types of installations.
If the odometer value within Ground Traffic Control comes from the GPS device and does not match the asset’s physical odometer reading, utilize the Odometer Offsets Admin to adjust the odometer value by adding the actual odometer from inside the cab of the asset. Annotate the date and time the reading occurred to ensure a proper offset calculation.
If you have successfully applied an offset, or the source is ECU and is still not accurate, contact Customer Care for additional assistance with configuring the offsets.

Use Odometer Offsets Admin
Odometer Offsets enable you to input an asset’s dashboard odometer reading when installing or replacing its GPS unit. Offsets are ignored when the odometer source is ECU. They are required when the Odometer Source is from the GPS. You should update offsets when:
- Installing a GPS unit for the first time
- Replacing a GPS unit
- If a noticeable drift between the asset’s dashboard odometer and Ground Traffic Control’s Odometer report value is detected
IMPORTANT: When installing a GPS unit for the first time or replacing a GPS unit, ensure that the asset physically moves at least 5 MPH for at least 100 feet after installing the GPS unit, before entering the noted offset.
- In the Filter pane, click Odometer Offset Admin. The following popup appears:
- Define the following:
Asset | Select the asset, and then click Load to show the offsets for that asset. |
Previous Offset | Previously entered offsets are listed with the Date, Time, and Odometer Reading. To delete an offset, click Delete in the Offset row. |
Offset Date | Enter the date and time the odometer reading was taken. |
Miles | Enter the odometer reading. |
Add | Once you complete the information, click Add to add the new reading to the asset’s offset. |
IMPORTANT: Entering an offset prior to an existing offset will not affect the reported odometer reading. The most recent offset entered for the asset will be used in calculating the current odometer value.
