Alerting Management
The Alerting Management page enables you to generate notifications (ZAlerts) based on specific events and problems as they occur, helping improve driver safety and fleet reliability. Customize the type of alerts your fleet receives. You can configure alerts to track driver and asset activity. You can view all ZAlerts currently configured, and add, edit, or delete alerts. When alerts occur, ZAlerts will generate pop-up messages in Ground Traffic Control as well as an email and/or SMS to a configurable list of contacts.
Requirements
Prior to creating ZAlerts, you must meet the following system conditions:
- Your account must be alert-enabled. If it is not enabled, contact your Zonar Account Manager for assistance.
- Configure each asset in Ground Traffic Control.
- Equip each asset with a Zonar V3, V3R, or V4 (Not compatible with ZTrak).
- Assign the following permission to user accounts requiring access to ZAlerts:
- adminalerting: Admin Alerting
- alerting: View Alerts and Notifications
Notification Types
You can configure alerts to send three types of notifications: email messages, popup alerts in Ground Traffic Control, and SMS text messages to a mobile phone.
- E-mail messages— When creating an alert, if you add an email address for the recipient, the recipient receives an email from notifications@zonarsystems.com.
Note: Your organization may need to adjust Spam filters to ensure proper delivery of alerts from Zonar Systems. If this occurs, add zonarsystems.com as a sender to your email white-list.
- Pop-Up Alerts—You can configure alerts to appear in Ground Traffic Control for designated users (recipients). When recipients click View More Details, the Manage > ZAlerts > View menu opens displaying the full notification message.
- SMS Alerts— You can configure alerts to send text messages to a recipient’s SMS address (mobile phone number). The alert is abbreviated to a 160-character message but contains all pertinent information for the alert. Standard text messaging rates may apply.
To access Alerting Management, from the main menu click Manage, then go to Monitor and click ZAlerts.

Step 1: Define Configuration Settings
Click to open the Alert Wizard starting with the Config Settings tab.
- In the Configuration Name text box, enter a name associated with this configuration (required).
- To copy an existing configuration and use that as the basis for this new configuration, select the Copy settings from existing config check box, and then select one from the Choose a configuration list (does not copy associated assets).
- To define whether this alert will Include Warnings, click Yes or No. When set to Yes, certain Alert Settings such as Idle Alert will include the additional ability to set a warning that will display on the tablet, but not sent to the contacts for the ZAlert. These settings are in addition to the standard Alerts. WARNING: This functionality is only available to our tablet customers using the MyDriving app.
- To set the associated level of Priority that displays with the ZAlert in the list view, pop-up, email, and SMS, click High, Medium, or Low.
- Default behavior sends a notification when an alert is generated. Select from the following Notify Settings check boxes if you want to set up additional notifications.
- Notify on Update: A notification is sent when an update to the alert is made.
- Notify on Resolution: A notification is sent when the alert’s status is set to Resolved.
- Until alert is resolved, send notifications every: When an alert is generated, one notification is sent. If you want to receive notification until the alert is resolved, you can set the frequency (hh:mm) of those notifications (to a maximum of five additional alerts).
- Click Next.
Step 2: Define Alert & Warning Settings
On the Alert Settings tab, click beside each of the alerts to expand the settings parameters. Click Next to move to the next alert type.
Activity Alert generates an alert when an engine on activity occurs during the defined time-frame.
Use auto-resolve | All alert types have this setting enabled by default. This will result in each ZAlert being automatically resolved. If you would like the alert to remain un-resolved until manually changed to resolve, clear this check box for the associated alert. You can resolve alerts using the ZAlert View. |

Alert only if distance traveled exceeds | This alert has optional parameters for distance and IO. These actions use AND logic; if you select this option, then an alert is generated only after the engine on AND distance traveled criteria are met. |
Alert only if input state is | This alert has optional parameters for state. These actions use AND logic; if you select this option, then an alert is generated only after the input selection AND state criteria are met. |
Battery Alert generates an alert when the battery voltage drops BELOW the specified limit over the defined time span average (in minutes). This alert is triggered only at an Engine off event.
Activate on voltage below | Set a voltage low-level limit for the battery at which you want this alert generated. |
Time span to average | Set the average time span for the voltage level limit at which you want this alert generated. |

Alerts & Warning | Select to also include sending a warning to the operator. |
Alert Only | Sends an alert to the contact when the idle occurs in defined zone(s). |
Alert when idle time exceeds | Click the arrows to define the maximum time limit. |
