The Maps tab displays the most recently reported location information of a company's fleet. This tab allows users to gather detailed reporting of individual units, broad location data of fleets and perform specialized tasks.
Visibility and task permissions for Maps are customizable. Features listed in this guide can be enabled or disabled for users in the Account tab.
Glossary
Search: Use to quickly find units or locations on the map. Results will prioritize unit names before offering locations.
Legend: If a unit is using a standard icon, it will change color depending on the most recently reported GPS event. Clicking the Legend will define what those colors represent.
Traffic: Powered by Google Maps, this filter opens a grid that estimates if local traffic is slower than expected. This feature prioritizes interstate highways and major thoroughfares.
Tags Filter : Displays a list of created Tags in the account and provides additional notes if a tag has vehicles or landmarks assigned to them. The Tags Filter icon will not display on Maps if all tags are visible in the Vehicles Map Utility.
Draw Control : Allows users to draw a shape around sections of the map to quickly select units.
Shapes are drawn by clicking and holding the mouse button and moving the cursor. Release the mouse button to finalize the selection shape.
Layer Control : Creates a overlay on the map that can used to track Routes, Vehicle Trails, or objects, lines or markers from an imported KMZ/KML file. Any created layer can be removed by clicking Layers and clicking Remove added layers*.
Map Settings : Use to adjust the display label of Units or Drivers, Landmarks and Geofences on Maps.
Map Layer : Adjusts the style of the map. Includes Standard, Satellite, Terrain, and Hybrid map options.
Center on Fleet : Click to display all units on the map.
Zoom Out : Click to manually zoom out.
Zoom In : Click to manually zoom in.
Street View : Click and drag the person icon onto the map and release to open Google's Street View at that location.
Full Screen : Opens a full screen display of the map.
Using Maps
Unit Summary Panel
Clicking a unit's icon will open a window detailing its most recently reported history. Each Summary Panel will list the unit's name, tag assignments, and a Follow button to quickly zoom in.
Location : Display the unit's most recently reported GPS location.
Vehicle Info : Provides a summary of the unit's vehicle. This includes Odometer, Engine Hour, Year, Make and Model, and VIN information assigned to the unit.
Device Info : Displays the unit's assigned telematics unit; including its serial number, device type, signal strength and the last time it sent a message to Zonar Ignition.
Street View : Provided by Google Street View, this option provides a panorama display of the unit's most recently reported location.
Video : Available for units with assigned cameras. Footage recorded by the camera, including recent snapshots, live footage, and clips from prior trips can be found here.
Vehicle Overview : Displays a unit's recently reported location information. This panel includes the last recorded GPS location, historical GPS location data, and the option to review vehicle trails.
Troubleshooting : Opens the Troubleshooting side panel. From here you can quickly review a unit's telematic install and cellular history, last reported location, and its Odometer and Engine Hours.
Map Utilities
The right panel of the Maps tab is called Map Utilities. This panel provides users options to customize what data is displayed on the map and perform specialized tasks.
Visibility and task permissions are set in Manage.
Vehicles
Displays a list of units in a fleet, sorted by their Tag assignments. Selecting a Tag's checkbox will make all units assigned to it display on the map.
Clicking the name of a unit will center the map on that unit's last reported location and open its Vehicle Overview.
Vehicle Trails
Displays the path taken by a unit over a specific period. Users can customize the display of a Vehicle Trail by adjusting time ranges and searching for specific types of events recorded.
Vehicle Trail data can be displayed in a table or exported and saved into a CSV or PDF file.
Landmarks
Landmarks are virtual boundaries drawn around specific properties or geographic areas. Every time a unit crosses a landmark's boundaries that event is recorded.
Landmarks can be created, edited, and deleted from this menu.
Geofences
Geofences are boundaries placed around a property or geographical area that are stored on compatible GPS units. Whenever the a unit with a geofence assignment crosses this boundary it will notify Zonar Ignition of the event.
Geofences can be created, edited, and deleted from this menu.
Routes
Displays the Assigned and Template routes created in Zonar Ignition on the map; with each waypoint connected by an optimized path.
Users with permissions access Routes can add, delete and edit routes from this menu.
Vehicle Directions
Creates turn-by-turn navigation instructions. Start and End points can be set to addresses, Units, map clicks, or Landmarks.
Directions can be adjusted to avoid tolls and highways.
Find Nearest
This tool allows users to verify the closest vehicle, equipment or landmark to a location or unit.
After creating a match users can use this feature to center their map on the matched item or generate turn-by-turn instructions from the matched item to the location.
Send Messages
A one-way messaging tool that can be used to notify external contacts or internal admins and Drivers.
Internal contacts will received messages from their email address or phone number attached to their user profile.
ETA
ETA allows users to calculate the estimated time of arrival for a unit and transmit that information to customers. The information is sent out as a clickable link, via either email or text message.
These links can be scheduled in advance, edited once sent, and canceled if needed.
Speed Override
This tool is used to to create a filter that overrides the map's posted speed limit for a designated stretch of road. Users can set the override by marking start and end points and specifying the correct speed limit.
Corrected speed limits distances cannot exceed 50 miles.
Vicinity Tool
Allows users to review activity within a defined geographic area of up to 1 mile, over a 12 hour time period. Any tracked vehicles and equipment reporting events within the search area will be listed.
The maximum length of time that can be reviewed is 12 hours. Temporary geofences cannot exceed 1 mile in diameter. Results can be filtered down based on Tag assignments.
