Unidentified Logs refers to any driving activity from an ELD vehicle, without a Driver having logged into the app. The system will recognize the movement of the vehicle due the mileage discrepancy that results.
Unidentified Logs appear to the FMCSA as attempts to circumvent the Hours of Service regulations. These should be avoided as much as possible. Use the Unidentified Logs section of the Admin portal to monitor for these events.
To search for Unidentified Logs use the filter at the top of the page. Set both Status and Vehicle to All, then choose the desired date range.
Each entry will have two buttons on the right hand side: Assign Log to Driver and Remark.
If the Driver that caused the Unidentified event is known, the Assign log button is used to add the log to the Driver records. In this way, the log is no longer Unidentified.
If the Driver is unknown or isn’t an employee, the log cannot be reassigned. Drivers cannot be assigned activities that aren’t they responsible for. In this scenario the Remark button would be used to provide an explanation.
Use the resulting pop-up to provide the appropriate information.
To prevent Unidentified Driving at all, every single company employee that operates the ELD vehicles in any capacity MUST have a driver login. All vehicle use must be logged via the driver app. The Drivers must log ALL activity. Utilize the Yard Move and Personal Use status where necessary.
Drivers should be advised that the phone or tablet being used for app access will provide a warning tone when an Unidentified Log event is in progress.
