The Distance by Jurisdiction report tracks fleet activity throughout the United States and Canada. The report organizes data based on where a vehicle traveled, estimates how much fuel it burned, and uses those values to calculate the taxes owed for operating in those territories.
Mileage Report Settings
The calculations that power this report can be accessed by clicking the Settings icon in the top right corner of the page.
From here calculation assumptions can be set for the Average MPG, the default fuel tax rate, and how many jurisdictions with reported vehicle activity should appear on the report.
In addition, Fuel Tax rates can be manually entered for each jurisdiction in the United States and Canada.
To ensure accurate calculations, confirm the fuel tax rate of the jurisdiction before adding it.
Using the Distance by Jurisdiction Report
Distance by Jurisdiction divides data into three separate tabs.
By Jurisdiction
The By Jurisdiction tab groups report data based on the territories that a fleet operated in.
To populate the report fill out the Date Range, Timezone, and Asset values in the Reporting Period box and then click Get Data.
Once populated, data displays in the following cards:
- Summary: Displays the total miles, total fuel used, the average MPH, jurisdictions operated in, and the number of vehicles that operated over the specified date range.
- Miles by Jurisdiction: Displays miles traveled per jurisdiction in a bar graph.
- Mileage Distribution: Displays miles traveled per jurisdiction in a pie chart.
- Jurisdiction Breakdown: Lists a table of jurisdictions traveled in. By default, the table sorts jurisdictions based on the Total Miles.
By Asset
The By Asset tab groups distance data based on the vehicles in a fleet that traveled during the specified date range. Once a report has been populated, the Mileage by Asset table will list assets based on the Total Miles driven.
To populate the report, fill out the Date Range, Timezone, Asset, and Jurisdiction values in the Reporting Period box and then click Get Data.
IFTA Report
The IFTA Report (International Fuel Tax Agreement) tab combines distance traveled by jurisdiction and the fuel tax rates set in the Mileage Report Settings to create an approximated IFTA Tax Report.
To populate the report, select the date range from the IFTA Quarter from drop menu. Results can be further refined by manually importing a CSV document with catalogued fuel purchases with the Fuel Data Source drop menu.
Once generated, the IFTA Tax Report will display fleet results for the selected quarter.
- Columns can be enabled or disabled with the Show/Hide Column
button.
- The Download
button will provide an exact copy of the generated table.
- The
Export IFTA CSV button will provide a CSV copy with additional columns for companies to help companies fully complete an IFTA report.
IFTA Compliance Notice:
This report is generated for reference purposes using GPS-based mileage data. Per IFTA regulations (R1200 Revenue Procedures Manual), licensees must maintain adequate distance records. Verify all figures against your fleet's odometer readings and fuel receipts before filing. Tax rates are updated periodically — confirm current rates with your jurisdiction's revenue department.
