Driver Performance
In Zonar Ignition the Driver Performance report uses risk events captured by fleet cameras and combines them with severity scores to aggregate a Risk Score for drivers. As more risk events are collected fleet managers can use them to create and assign cases and improvement plans to company drivers.
In the Zonar Driver application, drivers can review the risk events that define their Risk Score, read in-depth summaries of their driving behavior, and see the benchmarks and progress updates of their improvement plans.
Prerequisites
Driver Performance has two requirements before it can be used in app. First, drivers need to be granted specific a specific user permission. Second, companies need to set which Driver Performance features will display in the app for their fleet.
User Permissions
In order to view Driver Performance features in the Zonar Driver app the driverperformancedriver permission needs to be enabled to the driver's user profile in either Zonar Ignition or Ground Traffic Control.
To enable the permission on either platform follow the steps below:
Zonar Ignition
- From the side panel click Administration & Platform and then click Admin.
- Click the Account Settings tab and then click Users.
- On the User's line click Settings.
- Search for and enable the driverperformancedriver permission.
- Click Apply changes.
Ground Traffic Control
- From the Home screen click Manage and under System Settings click Users.
- On the User's line click settings.
- Search for and enable the driverperformancedriver permission.
- Click Update User.
Driver App Features
Individual aspects of Driver Performance can be enabled or disabled depending on company preferences.
Fleet administrators can choose these features by opening Driver Performance in Zonar Ignition, opening Driver Performance Settings, and then selecting the Driver App tab.
These features can be toggled on or off from this menu.
- Risk Score: A composite score based on the number of Risk Events recorded and Severity of those events. Disabling this feature removes all mentions of Risk Scores from the app.
- Review Events: Allows drivers to review and challenge risk events.
- Travel Recap: Provides a report of recent driving activity along with suggestions on how improve driving performance.
- Self-Coaching: Currently unavailable. This feature is in active development
- Improvement Plan: Displays active coaching cases assigned to the driver.
Feature changes appear in the application during the next successful user sign-in.
Risk Score
On the Home tab, drivers can see their Risk Score card. Risk Scores are a composite grade based on the number of Risk Events a driver recorded and the average Severity of those events. The card displays a driver's Risk Score on a scale from 0-100 and uses that score to advise the driver's Risk Status. The higher the score, the more at-risk a driver is operating.
Risk Scores are integrated into the other Driver Performance features.
Review Events
On the Home tab, the Review Events card details how many recorded events the
Tapping Review Events will open a record of recent video events that informed the driver's Risk Score. The Review Events screen displays video recordings of documented risk events.
Each event has a title of the reported infraction, the date and time it occurred, the event's impact on the driver's Risk Score, and a video recording of the event. Tapping the video reveals additional playback options.
Events are reviewed individually. If a driver agrees with the content of the event footage it can be closed by tapping Next or holding the video card and swiping right.
Once submitted, the event is removed from the list of reviewable events.
How to Challenge an Event
If a driver disagrees with the content of a recorded event it can be challenged by tapping Challenge or holding the video card and swiping left.
Once an event has been challenged drivers have two options to respond. Tapping Extenuating Circumstances informs fleet managers that more context is needed to fully understand the video clip. Tapping False Positive informs fleet managers that the video clip contradicts the event.
Once an option has been selected, tap Submit Challenge to remove the event from the list of reviewable events.
Travel Recap
On the Home tab, drivers can see the My Travel Recap card. Travel Recaps are AI-generated reviews of recent driver activity. These reviews summarize the risk impact, behavior patterns, and event highlights in the trip data. The travel recap then offers training recommendations based on that data.
Tapping View all recaps opens the Travel Recaps menu. Recaps are sorted in reverse chronological order. Travel recaps that haven't been reviewed yet are marked with a badge.
Tapping a listed trip will open its Travel Recap.
Travel Recaps have three sections:
- Risk Score: The Risk Score is a composite score of the number of events recorded and average of severity of those events for the day's trip. The lower the score, the more safely a driver was operating during a trip.
- AI Insights: Analysis of the types of events recorded, when they occurred, and any observable patterns from the data collected.
- Suggestions: Mitigation recommendations for future trips based on the insights recorded.
After swiping through the listed AI Insights the Travel Recap menu will generate a Mark as watched button at the bottom of the screen. Tap this button to complete the session.
Improvement Plan
On the Status tab, Driver Performance displays any Improvement Plan that has been assigned to a driver from the Driver Performance report.
Improvement Plans list the Risk Score and Average Event targets assigned to drivers and how many miles of driving they have left to reach those metrics.
As the necessary travel miles are accrued, the active improvement plan will advise if the driver is on track to meet their goals or if their driving behavior could use improvement.
Settings
Tapping the More icon from the bottom of the screen will open a menu with user and application settings.
The following settings are currently supported.
- Profile: Hosts driver overviews, account and security options.
- Settings: Hosts application preferences, notification preferences, display settings, and application version information.
- Change Asset / Release Asset: Allows driver to perform the same asset assignment actions seen in the Asset Details screen.
- Help Center: Hosts a link out to Zonar's Customer Support website and, if needed, has options to get in contact with Zonar's Customer Support team.
- Log Out: Signs the driver out of the Zonar Driver application

Asset Hardware
Asset Hardware gathers vehicle settings and hardware assignments for all active assets in a fleet. This allows installers to review and--if necessary--modify vehicle profiles, hardware assignments, and verify work history done.
To open a vehicle's Asset Hardware page tap Select asset from the home screen, use the search tool or asset list to find a vehicle and then tap the vehicle's card.
Edit Asset
At the top of an Asset Hardware page is a card displaying the vehicle's Asset ID. Tapping Edit will open the vehicle's profile.
The vehicle profile is sorted with the following tabs at the top of the screen:
- Details: Displays vehicle identifiers including Asset No, License Plate No, VIN, and Manufacturer details.
- Classification: Displays the vehicle descriptors including Asset Type, Speed Classification, and Jurisdiction.
- Assignment: Displays the vehicle's assigned home location and any custom data fields an account is using.
Each field has either a drop menu or a text box that can be selected and adjusted by the installer.
Tapping Save will finalize any changes.
Installed Hardware
If the vehicle has any installed devices they will display in the form of cards below the Asset ID. Each card will specify the device type and its identifying number (such as a GPS ID or an IMEI). Below these identifiers will be actions that an installer can take with the vehicle's assigned hardware.
- Replace: Tapping this button allows installers to remove an assigned device and then restart the installation process for the replacement device.
- Remove: Tapping this button allows installers to remove an assigned device. Installers will be asked to cite a reason for removal before finalizing the change.
Additional features may appear depending on the device type.
Job History
At the bottom of the Asset Hardware screen is the Job History. This section will display the vehicle's device installation history. Tapping an entry will open a summary of the install.
Summaries include the date and time of the installation, the identifier for the device, the name of the installer, and any additional details noted during the installation.
