Driver Association is a feature of Zonar Ignition where certain reports show the last driver to have interacted with a fleet asset in certain ways. This allows dispatchers and fleet managers to quickly identify who is using which vehicle at a given time. This article describes how and where drivers are associated with assets.
Identifying a Driver
Drivers are currently associated with an asset through any of the following methods:
- Completing a pre-trip inspection with a 2010 handheld or a tablet.
- Completing an inspection in EVIR Mobile with the Associate driver with inspected assets setting enabled.
- Logging into a tablet docked to that asset.
- Logging into the RideView Companion app.
- Tapping an NFC card to the Coach camera.
- Assigning a driver profile to an asset in Maps.
- Assigning an asset with the Zonar Driver app.
The most recent association is always shown. For example; if a driver logs into their tablet, then performs a pre-trip inspection, the pre-trip inspection serves as the source of the asset association.
Asset associations are indefinite and will assign a driver with their last known vehicle until they are either unassigned from the vehicle or another driver is associated with the same asset. Drivers can manually unassign themselves from vehicles with the Zonar Driver app and fleet admins can unassign drivers from assets with the Maps report.
Depending on the method, a Zonar Ignition Driver profile or User profile may be required before triggering an asset association. The following table lists driver association methods with these requirements:
| Method | Driver Profile Required | User Profile Required |
| Pre-Trip EVIR Inspection | ||
| EVIR Mobile Inspection | ||
| Tablet Login | ||
| Coach Camera NFC Card | ||
| Zonar Driver Application |
Login access to the RideView Companion app requires a driver profile in the Zonar Coach web application.
Reports with Driver Association
When a driver is associated with an asset in Ignition, their name will appear connected to the vehicle profile. These reports display the last known driver where appropriate:
Maps: Displays driver assignments in the left side Assets panel.
Posted Speed: Displays driver assignments in the Events tab.
Driver Performance: Displays driver assignments in the Events tab.
Disclaimer
Zonar does not guarantee that the individual associated with an asset is the individual who physically drove or is driving the vehicle. While the actions used to identify a driver are ones that the individual physically in the driver's seat are responsible for, there may be extenuating circumstances such as:
- a driver using the vehicle without interacting with Zonar equipment,
- one driver using another's login information,
- one driver performing the pre-trip inspection on behalf of another,
- or other real life situations that the equipment is unable to account for.
Use appropriate judgment when investigating incidents.
