Driver Association is a feature of Ground Traffic Control where certain reports show the last driver to have interacted with a fleet asset in certain ways. This allows dispatchers and fleet managers to quickly identify who is using which vehicle at a given time. This article describes how and where drivers are associated with assets.
Identifying a Driver
Drivers are currently associated with an asset through any of the following methods:
- Completing a pre-trip inspection using any version of EVIR (2010 handheld, tablet, or EVIR Mobile)
- Logging in to the tablet docked to that asset
- Logging into the Coach DashCam app
- Tapping an NFC card to the Coach camera
Where a driver is associated in Ground Traffic Control, an info icon is also present. Hover over the icon to show how the driver was associated and when.
The most recent association is always shown; if a driver logs into their tablet, then performs a pre-trip inspection, the pre-trip inspection is displayed.
Reports with Driver Association
There are currently three reports which display the last known driver where appropriate:
Maps
- Live View: If a driver is currently associated to an asset, the Live view shows the driver in both the Asset List and Asset Details screens.
- History View: If a driver was associated to an asset for a trip, the History view shows the driver's name at the start of the trip. The association pop-up shows the most recent action before the trip that associated the driver.
Performance > Usage
- Event View: If a driver was associated to an asset during a usage event, the Event view shows the driver's name in the specific event details. The association pop-up shows the most recent action before the event that associated the driver.
Safety > Posted Speed
- Event View: If a driver was associated to an asset during a speeding event, the Event view shows the driver's name in the specific event details. The association pop-up shows the most recent action before the event that associated the driver.
Disclaimer
Zonar does not guarantee that the individual associated with an asset is the individual who physically drove or is driving the vehicle. While the actions used to identify a driver are ones that the individual physically in the driver's seat are responsible for, there may be extenuating circumstances such as:
- a driver using the vehicle without interacting with Zonar equipment,
- one driver using another's login information,
- one driver performing the pre-trip inspection on behalf of another,
- or other real life situations that the equipment is unable to account for.
Use appropriate judgment when investigating incidents.
